John Skaarup is the Cybersecurity Officer for the Texas Department of Transportation.  He worked previously as the Deputy Information Security Officer for Texas Health and Human Services and has been in Information Security leadership positions since joining the State of Texas in 2005.  He is a graduate from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio with a bachelor’s in Business Management and Information Systems. In his personal time, he’s an active member of the Austin Chapter of InfraGuard and the Capitol of Texas Chapter of ISSA, is an active member of the Round Rock Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and American Legion.  John retired from a 20-year Army career in in Armored Cavalry in January of 2006.
